Thoughts 3

I remember Wordle. It came out and became a huge worldwide phenomenon. Some random guy came up with the program based off the gameshow Lingo and it exploded. I think the New York Times bought the game and made it a part of their daily minigame selection. This is the version most people played, and everyone did indeed start playing it. It was kind of like when you watch a show weekly, and you go to school, and you missed an episode but everyone else spoils it for you; this was the case with Wordle. So most people just did Wordle in the morning. Each day a new word was picked, and soon, programs were made to identify the best possible strategy to maximise Wordle success by analysing dictionaries. I remember my strategy, it was:
  • Flame
  • Podgy
  • Brick
  • Shunt
It gave me 20 / 26 letters and 2 guesses to win. It worked about 95% of the time. Over time however, this strategy became stale, proving the point of how developers need to protect players from themselves (https://youtu.be/7L8vAGGitr8). Today, Wordle is a distant memory. A lot of people still play it, maybe not daily, but it does have an active player-base: it's just that people don't talk about it anymore, it's not exciting enough in our "busy" lives. What I found funny is how some people would make daily content on the newest Wordle, it's just fascinating how people jump on the bandwagon and jump off as soon as it's no longer cool. People who do things because other people think they are cool are shallow, I respect people who like what they like. Personally, this has lead me to prefer things other people don't know rather than like what everyone else likes. If I like something, I will engage with it, but nowhere near as much as unpopular things. In fact, unpopularity is one of the aspects that draws me to the things I like; and ironically, I get excited when someone else knows about the niche things I like, just not everyone.
I remember I went to the cinema, and the person who scanned our tickets had a small mask tattooed on his arm. I walked past, but then turned back and asked "do you like MF DOOM?" and he replied "yes, not many people get that." It was nice, which is the same reason why I love comic con. I guess its not people in general I don't like, it's just the people in my age range today, they're just obnoxious and pitiful (that's an exaggeration, not all of them, in fact, if I sat and spoke with them one on one, I bet they have deep souls, but the point is, in groups people lose their humanity). I'd argue the more people there are around you, the less "you" you actually are, the less true you are to yourself, and it's the case with everyone. I mean you are the most true when you are alone, and the least true when you are in a large crowd of bustling people at a concert, in all honesty, you are just a moving blob and a small source of sound; but more than physicality, you just jump around like everyone else.
You know, I could talk to a stranger about anything, in fact, that's all I want to do sometimes. That and just surf through charity shops, I love that addictive feeling of looking for something good, it goes away when you get it yes, but it can be replenished. Yes it's shallow, but its a hobby like any other. I buy CDs and DVDs, sifting through collections for up to 2.5 hours if its there's enough stuff.

I have a compulsive problem of wanting to see and get everything, like that one Aerosmith song from Armageddon. And I do a bunch of weird things like turn of plugs whenever they are on but not in use, adjust my pillows every time I see them even slightly undone, and tying the long ends of my bags so they don't stick out. If I don't do it, I can't do anything else; it bothers me. It'll only get worse.

Living off borrowed time the clock tick faster. I love that line.

This is a weird instalment of thoughts, but hey, full o' scorpions is my mind. I should probably put an image in this post, but I'm not going to.

PS. Watch 'Home Movies', it's on YouTube, all the Adult Swim episodes are in one playlist by Jackie Treehorn. Here's the link to episode one - https://youtu.be/CJcBL9JPfZw.

I got to bring it back full circle. Many variations of wordle exist, but my favourite has to be duotrigordle, 32 wordles at once, it's great fun.

Also, I need to write flash fiction, it looks fun.

By the way, check out my brand new video, daily uploads upcoming soon:
